Sinossi/Plot:
Adattato dalla seconda parte della tragica commedia Faust di Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, il film usa Mefistofele come prototipo del suo antagonista. Nel film, il moderno Faust, che è in continua evoluzione nel suo aspetto esteriore, desidera soddisfare il suo senso di sé. Per raggiungere questo obiettivo, recupera la terra dall'oceano per costruire parchi industriali per la sua città ideale. Alte ciminiere che eruttano il fumo nel cielo riflettono l'avidità insaziabile dell'uomo. Attirato dal diavolo, l'uomo continua a costruire la sua Torre di Babele per raggiungere il regno degli dei, ma nel frattempo perde la sua salute e la sua vita e compromette anche la sostenibilità delle risorse naturali a sua disposizione. Il film esprime veemente disapprovazione verso l'economia del consumo eccessivo. Le emissioni industriali e lo scarico delle acque reflue dalle fabbriche petrolchimiche hanno reso i terreni agricoli tossici e le zone costiere senza vita, mentre l'innalzamento del livello del mare dovuto al riscaldamento climatico ha inondato la terra. Mentre l'inquinamento si diffonde come una pandemia, l'uomo viene maledetto e la natura viene catturata da una spirale di morte.
Adapted from part two of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's tragic play Faust, the film uses Mephistopheles as the prototype of its antagonist. In the film, the modern Faust, who is ever-changing in his outward appearance, yearns at fulfilling his sense of self. To achieve this, he reclaims land from the ocean to build industrial parks for his ideal city. Tall smokestacks belching smoke into the sky reflect man’s insatiable greed. Enticed by the devil, man continues to build his Tower of Babel to reach to the realm of the gods, yet in the process, he loses his health and his life, and also compromises the sustainability of the natural resources at his disposal. The film expresses vehement disapproval toward the economics of over-consumption. Industrial emissions and waste water discharge from petrochemical factories have rendered farmlands toxic and coastal areas lifeless, while rising sea levels due to climate warming have inundated the land. As pollution spreads like a pandemic, man is cursed, and nature is caught in a spiral of death.
